Just get started on your goals

Giving up is sometimes the easiest thing to do in the world. Despite our best intentions, at times, defeat kicks our butt and makes us think we will never get over the hump.

I’ve been there. For years I resigned myself to thinking that being stuck in a job I knew wasn’t my passion was good enough.  After all, the money was decent, I had ample time off, and the benefits made it hard to quit. But while teaching is by no means the worst job in the world (it is one of the hardest, though), I was slowly drowning and giving in to the feeling that perhaps things just wouldn’t happen for me.

Thankfully, I snapped out of it. And thankfully, I didn’t completely silence that little voice inside my head that said, “Just try it, you never know what could happen.”

Most of you have heard that voice. Some have ignored it; others are still wondering what to do.

In case you have any doubts whether or not you should pursue your goals, here are 13 reasons you should stop thinking about it and start running as fast as you can toward your dreams.

  1. If you don’t, the shoulda, woulda, couldas will haunt you for the rest of your life.
  2. You’re going to kick yourself if someone acts on your idea instead of you.
  3. Not trying is worse that trying and failing.
  4. You’re unique. Even if your niche is crowded, no one can do it quite like you.
  5. You never know what will happen until you try.
  6. Think about it. What’s really the worst that can happen if you give it a go?
  7. You need a cool story to tell your grandkids.
  8. Excuses are for suckers.
  9. You are smart enough, capable enough, and can totally pull it off.
  10. Getting started is the hardest part. Overcome that and you’re golden.
  11. You’ve already waited long enough.
  12. Doing what you love can only make your life better.
  13. You might just succeed

What’s your top reason for pursuing your dreams?
