Yesterday was Thanksgiving here in the U.S., and while everyone and their mama took to nearly every social network to proclaim their gratitude for just about everything, I had to wonder if they were really thankful or if folks just felt obligated to gush on their status updates because of the holiday.
Being sort of a rebel (or a contrarian), I typed in a simple “Merci” and kept it pushing. Why? I had already told God what I was thankful for, and to me, that was enough.
While I’m not knocking anyone whose gratitude overflowed onto their social networks, I do sometimes wonder how many of those same folks are JUST as thankful the other 364 days of the year.
(How true is this?)
In my weekly newsletter and on this blog, I’ve written about the power of gratitude, and I hope that for many of us it isn’t just relegated to the Holiday season.
Giving thanks and being grateful for our lives is one of the most powerful things we can do. And while this time of year serves as a good reminder for us to reflect on the good things, it shouldn’t stop when the New Year begins.
As Oprah Winfrey so aptly stated, “Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.” So remember to incorporate gratitude into every single day of your life, you never know when it might be your last.
